Circus Vargas will bring its big top to Torrance and Lakewood

The circus comes to the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance Oct. 14-Nov. 7 and the Lakewood Center mall in Lakewood Nov. 11-28.

After a three year pause due to the pandemic, the big top returns with Circus Vargas bringing in the clowns, acrobats, trapeze artists, jugglers and all sorts of daredevils to Torrance and Lakewood.

The traveling show, which was founded in 1969 by Clifford E. Vargas, wraps up its 2022 season with stops in Torrance at the Del Amo Fashion Center Oct.14-Nov. 7, and in Lakewood at the Lakewood Center mall Nov. 11-28. Previous local stops included Laguna Hills earlier this summerand a stint in Arcadia in September.

The two-hour, all-ages show is an all-new production dubbed The Circus Vargas Express. According promoters, the storyline focuses on a cast of international characters who board the Vargas Express train to share their culture and circus skills all over the country.

“We are like our own mini United-Nations here,” said Katya Quiroga, Circus Vargas co-owner and CEO in a statement. “Everyone will get a taste of the different countries represented and enjoy two hours of thrills and excitement.”

Among the acts coming to Torrance and Lakewood are acrobats, who perform stunts on a teeterboard, two daredevils, that walk on the rotating Wheel of Death, as well as motorcyclists who will ride upside down and sideways within inches of each other in the Globe of Death.

There are trapeze artists flying through the air, a clown show, jugglers, a contortionist, who bends her body in all sorts of unnatural ways, and aerial acrobats that use straps to make it appear as if they are flying through the air.
