Long Beach church to distribute more than 700 backpacks filled with school supplies, uniforms
Long Beach students are set to begin their academic year later this month — and Christ the Good Shepherd Coptic Church wants to make sure they are prepared to resume in-person learning.
The church will host its fifth annual Back-to-School Supply Pick Up event Saturday afternoon, Aug. 14, and is expected to hand out more than 700 backpacks filled with school supplies and school uniforms.
Last year, the church collected and distributed backpacks and school supplies, but not uniforms — since students learned remotely amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The church buys the supplies with money donated via its Back2School 2020 GoFundMe, which had raised $1,065 this year, as of Friday afternoon, Aug. 13.
